About Startup Onramp
Do you have an idea for a new high growth business, or an existing business with a vision to make it national or global? Then you’ve come to the right place.
Startup Onramp is for anyone who wants to develop, launch or scale (quickly grow) their business. For successful applicants, this is a 12-week programme to provide skills to do this. Each week you will attend a two-hour workshop delivered by a range of startup experts, and have weekly individual mentoring sessions with the Innovation Mentor. The programme will conclude on pitch night, where attendees pitch their idea and share their learnings with fellow entrepreneurs, family and friends.
And the kicker is…… if you complete the course, it’s free! Applicants in the South East corner are paying up to $4,000 to attend this programme, however due to the generous support of Advance Queensland, regional applicants will only have to pay a nominal amount of $300 for the entire 12 week programme. This amount will be refunded in full upon 80% attendance of the programme.
The current Startup Onramp Programme is running weekly from Thursday 9 May 5:30 – 7:30pm at The Hub 7-9 James Street, Yeppoon. The programme will culminate in a pitch night to showcase learnings and outline next steps. Community members, potential investors and family members are all invited to attend the pitch night to be held at the Livingstone Town Hall, 25 Normanby Street Yeppoon from 5.30-7.30pm Thursday 1 August 2019.
What topics will be covered?
The programme will cover a wide range of startup fundamentals that will help you define, develop and grow your business. The topics will be covered by local and external experts in the training workshops and will include:
- Introduction to startups
- What distinguishes successful startups from failures
- Naming and branding
- Value proposition – how will this innovation solve your customer’s problem
- Idea validation – is there a large market willing to pay for your innovation
- Legal basics
- Public relations
- Product development
- Customer acquisition
- Raising investment
The programme has been tailored to fit around your existing work. We understand that starting a business is a risk, and that’s why we don’t expect you to quit your day job while you’re getting your business off the ground. The programme, although intensive, only requires approximately three hours per week face-to-face. Workshops are scheduled after work hours during the week, but mentoring sessions can be scheduled to suit your individual needs and can even be over the phone.

How do I apply?
Places on Startup Onramp are competitive and limited to 12 individual or team spots. The application is a fourstage process:
Is Startup Onramp for you?
We are looking for people who:
- Have a high growth potential business idea or an established business looking to grow quickly.
- Are passionate about driving hard towards their goals (yes, it is all about people!).
- Are self-motivated and have the drive and ability to make the most out of opportunities.
We don’t want people who need a ping pong table or trendy surrounds to inspire them to greatness. We’re after people who will get the job done from a garage whilst eating beans on toast if that’s what’s required. If this sounds like you, then apply here.
